Timesnap Privacy Policy

Timesnap ("the app," "we," "us") is a camera app published by Rivontech that adds a verified timestamp, location, and (optionally) a unique verification code to your photos and videos. This policy explains what information the app accesses, what we actually store on our servers, and what we never touch — in plain language, matched to what the app's code actually does, not boilerplate.

1. Information the app accesses on your device

These permissions are used to power the core camera features. Everything in this section stays on your device unless a section below says otherwise.

  • Camera & microphone — to capture photos and record video with audio.
  • Location (GPS) — to burn a timestamped address onto your photos and videos. Reverse-geocoding (turning coordinates into a readable address) is done by Apple's location services on iOS or Google's on Android — see section 9.
  • Photo library / storage — to save your captures to your device's gallery and to let you export or share them.
  • Internet & network state — needed for time verification (NTP), generating/looking up verification codes, reverse-geocoding, Google sign-in and Drive backup (if you use them), and ads.

2. Verification records we store on our servers

When a photo or video is captured with a live, verified time source, the app can generate a unique verification code for it. To make that code checkable later (in the app, on the verification website, or in a PDF report), we store a record on our servers containing:

  • the verification code itself,
  • the timestamp,
  • GPS coordinates and accuracy at the moment of capture,
  • whether the device was online at the time of capture.

This record is linked only to the verification code — not to your name, email, device ID, or any Timesnap account, because the app doesn't require an account to capture verified photos and videos. Someone with the code can look up these details; without it, the record can't be found or tied back to you. The photo or video file itself is never uploaded to our servers — only the metadata above.

3. Google sign-in and Google Drive backup (optional)

Timesnap includes an optional profile feature and an optional "Auto Backup" setting. Neither is required to use the camera.

  • Signing in with Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with the app, shown on your profile page. You can sign out at any time from the app, or revoke the app's access entirely from your Google Account's security settings.
  • Auto Backup, if you turn it on, uploads your captured photos and videos to a folder in your own Google Drive. The app requests Google's restricted drive.file permission scope, meaning it can only see and write files it created itself — it cannot browse, read, or modify anything else in your Drive. You can delete backed-up files directly in Google Drive at any time, and Google's own privacy policy governs how Drive stores that data.

4. Advertising

Timesnap shows ads through Google AdMob to support free use of the app. Where required by law (including the EEA and UK), you'll be shown a consent form the first time you open the app, letting you choose whether ads are personalized. You can change that choice later from Settings → Privacy Options. On iOS, the App Tracking Transparency prompt separately controls whether the app can request your device's advertising identifier for ad measurement — declining it means you'll only see non-personalized ads, and every other feature of the app works exactly the same either way.

5. Apple App Store disclosures

  • Verification record data (section 2) is linked to a code, not to your identity.
  • App Tracking Transparency permission controls ad personalization only (section 4) — it does not gate access to the camera or any other feature.
  • Google sign-in and Drive access (section 3) are both entirely optional.

6. What we don't do

  • We don't run any analytics or crash-reporting SDK — there is no Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or similar tracking anywhere in the app.
  • We don't sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
  • We don't require an account to use the core camera, timestamp, or verification features.
  • We don't access your Google Drive beyond the single app-created backup folder, ever.
  • We don't upload your photo or video files to our own servers — only the verification metadata described in section 2, and only when a verification code is generated.

7. Data retention

  • Photos and videos stay on your device (and, if you enable it, your own Google Drive) — we never hold a copy.
  • Verification records (section 2) are kept indefinitely so codes remain checkable, unless you request deletion (contact us — section 12).
  • If you sign in with Google, your session persists until you sign out or revoke access from your Google Account settings.

Verification records and, if applicable, Firebase-hosted data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your own country, including in the United States. By using Timesnap, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own.

10. Your choices and rights

  • Revoke camera, microphone, or location permission at any time from your device's system settings.
  • Turn off Auto Backup, or delete files already backed up, directly in Settings or Google Drive.
  • Sign out of Google, or revoke the app's Google access entirely, from your Google Account settings.
  • Change your ad personalization choice any time from Settings → Privacy Options.
  • EU/EEA/UK residents (GDPR): you have the right to access, correct, or delete verification records tied to a code you hold, and to object to or restrict certain processing — contact us (section 12).
  • California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information; ad personalization (section 4) can be turned off at any time and is treated as an opt-out of any data sharing for cross-context advertising.

11. Children's privacy

Timesnap is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in those age groups. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.

12. Changes to this policy & contact

We may update this policy as the app changes. Updates will be posted here with a revised "Last updated" date; continued use of the app after a change means you accept the update.
