TimeSnap
Privacy Policy · Last updated: 7 July 2026
TimeSnap (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is developed by Usama Zafar. This policy applies to all versions of TimeSnap, including the Android version distributed via Google Play and the iOS version distributed via the Apple App Store. It explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.
1. Data we access
Required to capture photos and videos. Media is processed entirely on your device. We never transmit your photos or videos to any external server.
Android: Uses the Android Camera2 / CameraX API. iOS: Uses AVFoundation.
Used exclusively during video recording to capture audio alongside video. Audio is saved only to your local device storage and is never streamed or stored remotely.
Android: RECORD_AUDIO permission. iOS: NSMicrophoneUsageDescription.
Used to reverse-geocode your physical address (street, town, postcode, country) which is burned permanently onto captured media as part of the timestamp overlay. When you use the Verification feature, your GPS coordinates and capture timestamp are also transmitted to our secure Firebase database, linked to a unique verification code, so that the authenticity of a capture can be independently confirmed later using that code.
Android: ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission — uses Google’s geocoding service. iOS: NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription — uses Apple’s CoreLocation and CLGeocoder.
Used to query public NTP servers — specifically pool.ntp.org and fallbacks including time.google.com and time.cloudflare.com — to fetch a tamper-proof verified timestamp. No personal data is sent in these requests. If no internet is available, the app falls back to the device system clock and clearly labels all captures as “Offline taken”.
When you use the Verification feature, internet access is also used to send a capture’s timestamp, GPS location, and a unique verification code to our Firebase database. This allows anyone with the code to later confirm when and where that capture was made, without needing the original photo or video file. No photo or video content is ever uploaded.
Required to save captured photos and videos to your device’s native gallery. We do not copy, upload, or sync your media anywhere.
Android: READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO (Android 13+) or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below). iOS: NSPhotoLibraryAddUsageDescription and NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription.
2. Data we do NOT collect
- We do not collect any personal identifiers (name, email, account) — no sign-up or login is required.
- We do not use analytics SDKs or crash-reporting services.
- We do not sell, share, or monetise your data in any form.
- We do not maintain user accounts. We do maintain a verification database (see Section 1) used only to confirm the authenticity of captures via a unique code — this is not linked to your name, email, or identity.
- We do not access your contacts, calendar, messages, health data, or any other device data beyond what is listed in Section 1.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
3. Advertising
TimeSnap displays banner advertisements powered by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use data in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy. This may include your device advertising ID and approximate location for ad personalisation.
On Android: You can opt out of personalised ads under Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation.
On iOS: You can limit ad tracking under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. TimeSnap will request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission on iOS 14+ before showing personalised ads. You may decline and the app will continue to function with non-personalised ads.
4. Apple App Store additional disclosures (iOS)
In compliance with Apple’s App Privacy requirements, TimeSnap’s data usage is summarised as follows:
- Data not linked to you: When you use the Verification feature, precise location and timestamp data are sent to our Firebase database, tied only to a randomly generated verification code — not to your name, email, or any account. Approximate location may also be used by AdMob for non-personalised ad delivery.
- Data used to track you: Only if you grant ATT permission for personalised ads. You can revoke this at any time.
- Data linked to your identity: None. TimeSnap does not require an account, name, or email.
5. Children’s privacy
TimeSnap is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA under GDPR). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that raises privacy concerns, please contact us at the address below.
6. Data retention
All media captured by the app is stored solely on your device. You can delete it at any time from your device gallery. We retain no copies. App preferences (time format, stamp colour, etc.) are stored locally and are deleted when you uninstall the app. Verification records (timestamp, GPS coordinates, and code) sent via the Verification feature are retained on our servers indefinitely to allow ongoing authenticity checks, unless you request deletion by contacting us at the email below.
7. Third-party services
- pool.ntp.org — NTP time synchronisation (no personal data sent)
- Google AdMob — in-app advertising (Google Privacy Policy)
- Google geocoding (Android) — reverse-geocoding of GPS coordinates
- Apple CoreLocation / CLGeocoder (iOS) — reverse-geocoding of GPS coordinates (Apple Privacy Policy)
- Google Firebase — stores verification records (timestamp, GPS, code) for the Verification feature (Google Privacy Policy)
8. Your rights
You can revoke any app permission at any time:
- Android: Settings → Apps → TimeSnap → Permissions
- iOS: Settings → TimeSnap
If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and portability with respect to the verification records described in Section 1. Since these records are linked only to a verification code and not to your name or email, we can only locate and act on a record if you provide us with the relevant code and approximate capture date. For any AdMob-related data requests, please contact Google directly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
